Motivation

There you are, warm and cozy, tucked under a big ol soft comforter it’s still dark out. You roll your head off the soft and warm pillow and put your feet on the cold hard floor. “Nope, I’ll go to the later class.” And back to bed you go.

There you are, tired and grumpy stuck behind your desk, florescent light beating down on you as the sun sets behind the mountains. It’ll be dark soon. You roll out of the parking lot and hit the busy traffic on the streets. “Nope, I’ll go tomorrow.” Another opportunity missed.

Why do you roll over and go back to sleep or roll past the gym on your way home? Where is the MOTIVATION?  It’s tricky, it’s very easy to GET motivated but it can be very hard to STAY motivated. So, let’s back it up a step…

What Motivates YOU?

The first step to figuring out What motivates you is to answer the question,
“Am I intrinsically motivated or extrinsically motivated?”

Intrinsic motivation comes from within yourself. You’re motivated because you enjoy what you’re doing, you’re seeing improvement, it’s fun and you want to do better.  Extrinsic motivation comes from outside forces. You’re going to work hard because of the rewards you will reap and your target is visable.

Figuring out what motivates you just takes some focused thought.
Would you be more likely to try harder if you had a goal time to beat, or a goal date to be ready for?
Would you be more likely to try harder if you weren’t particularly good at something and needed to get better?

There is no right answer, there is just a right answer for you. Some of us want this, others want that…most of us want both and we want it now.So the question becomes what is going to get you to show up and bust your ass

When it’s dark and cold.

Your tired and busy.

When you’ve lost focus on your goal.
