The CrossFit Total:

Throughout the year we have multiple tests, or benchmarks that we use as tools to help us review our training protocols as well as guide our next steps. We have Benchmarks that we use to test aerobic capacity, anaerobic threshold, strength endurance, skill under fatigue, and absolute strength.   

We end each year with the CrossFit Total because it is the definitive test of absolute strength in three major power lifts.  The Back Squat, The Press and The Deadlift.  There is no speed component, technique is minimal when compared to the clean & jerk and the snatch.  The total tests your raw and brute strength.  One of the 10 Skills of Physical Fitness.  We cycle through multiple strength phases throughout the year.  This Benchmark mixed with our Olympic Total are the Finale of our strength training for the year.

We’ve chosen to end the year with The Total because it’s a great way to sum up your training from the previous year.  Have you been distracted, fallen into poor nutritional habits, and missed a lot of the strength days or have you been crushing your training, working on improving your mobility and technique and reaching new levels of human performance?  This test, is a tool to help you reflect.  

The Third reason we close out the year with the CrossFit Total is because it’s a wonderful tool to use in setting the standard for the year to come.  It helps us ask the questions,

What do you WANT  to Focus on?  

What do you NEED to Focus on?  

Is your strength where you want it to be or do you need to be here on every strength day.  

These are just a few of the questions you can ask yourself or talk with a coach about.  Once you’ve asked yourself these and more questions, then it’s time to start answering them and getting to work on improving and making yourself Semi-Super Human!!
