One of our athletes confessed to me today that he is ready to embrace the paleo lifestyle. Well maybe not lifestyle, he’ll still wear modern clothes and shoes. He won’t hunt and kill his meals with rudimentary weapons, he’ll hunt the grocery store instead. I just HATE saying the Paleo Diet.
Diets are short term. Diets are like ferris wheels, you go around and around, your on top of the world and then you slowly circle back to the earth just to start your climb back up again. In my experience, going Paleo is choosing to rediscover food.
Going Paleo, or Primal, or Rocking the Caveman Nutrition lets you find new ways to prepare Lean Meats, Vegetables, Nuts & Seeds, and Fruits. Or it helps you find one new way you can replicate everyday. It might not stimulate the “comfort zone” like a Cold Stone Gotta Have It Cake Batter Ice Cream with Double Brownie Double Fudge and colored sprinkles but you’ll feel better, longer and your body will function better, longer.
Just think about the lab rat that has the choice of pushing the food button or the “gratification” button that starved to death. For all practical purposes that’s what many of us are doing. You’re too stressed, too tired, over-worked, on the road, horrible at cooking, or too lazy to cook your own food. So you get something quick and easy, something comforting, and because you’re body is an amazing machine it works with what you give it. Gratification Accomplished. Nutrition Failed.
Look I’m not going to preach a Primal way of eating. I’m going to be honest and tell you that when I went paleo I started seeing amazing results. When I convinced my athletes to go primal they’ve had amazing outcomes, when people ask me if the caveman diet works I tell them try it and tell me what happens. We’re all adults and if you want that double bacon cheese burger with gravy fries I bet you’re going to have it. But I’m gonna tell you there are better choices for your performance and your health.
Before I start sharing recipes and video’s of our adventure’s in the kitchen I’d love some feedback. What kind of recipes would you like to see? Post to comments and we’ll cook somethin up.
