Community
In the early morning hours just before I left the house I found out about the unbelievable tragedy in a movie theater in Aurora. The sun hadn’t even come up yet. The internet, the radio, it was the only thing people were talking about. I was filled with anger, rage, hatred toward the individual who did this. And at the same time, I couldn’t feel anything but sorrow for the families that have been forever altered by this event.
Through all the reports and discussions I listened to on the radio. Through all the tweets I read on my phone, there was one common theme, Community. I kept hearing that word, the COMMUNITY of Aurora, the COMMUNITY of Denver, the COMMUNITY of Colorado. And as it often does, my mind started to think about the COMMUNITY of CrossFit Vantage and the COMMUNITY of our Athletes.
Many of you don’t know each other yet. You train at different times, different days. Or maybe you haven’t been to the facility in a few days. This doesn’t change the fact that you are all in the same community. You don’t always know all of your neighbors or interact with all of your co-workers but that doesn’t mean you don’t share many experiences on a daily basis.
Everyday you train, you share sweat and chalk. You all suffer through the same WOD’s and mumble (or yell) the same four letter words. None of you like burpees, you all love results. And with every rep you forge a tighter community. As coaches we get to see this mature and develop. In light of the recent events, I encourage all of you to spend those extra few minutes warming up, cooling down,lollygaging and get to know the other people that you train with. They are your friends, your teammates, your partners in pain.
