“Want”
I remember sitting in a locker room when I was younger listening to one of my coaches barking at us for the crap we produced in the first half and how if we ever wanted to win we’d have to step it up.
Play Tougher.
Make Better Decisions.
Play Harder.
A lot of us had tuned him out. Some were going over what they needed to do in there head, others just didn’t care. After the Head Coach finished his rant, one of the assistant coaches started talking to us. Not Rah Rah pump you up Bulls**t, not yelling, he got everyones attention and just started talking to us like we were men. He paused a lot and spoke with a passion that came from years of “experience”
“You gotta Want it”
“I can’t want it for you”
“We’ll give you the tools, We’ll give you the knowledge”
“But YOU’VE gotta Want it.”
“When it’s Game Time, YOU’RE the ones playing.”
I don’t know how many of my teammates heard him, I’m not sure how many cared. I do know that I heard him and it got my head right. He put it on US. We were in control of what we did or didn’t do. We could go out there and do it right, or we could go through the motions.
You’re legs will carry you, or they won’t
You’re arms will pull you, or they won’t
You gotta want it for you, cause nobody’s gonna want it for you.
Train Hard.
