One Badass Mama!

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m originally from Gainesville, Florida, but I’ve been in Colorado nearly half my life now! I do lots of different things. I recently started working again as a marketer. After years in the corporate world, now I’m working to support people and things I’m really passionate about. I also recently started nutrition school. Spending time with my family is also a huge passion of mine. I have 4 kids (step-kiddos Chiara, 9, Che, 7, and kiddos Ayla, 4, and Axel, 2) and a wonderful husband, Jon.

 How and when did you get started with CrossFit? 

I got really lucky. Back in 2010 when I lived in Chicago I hired a personal trainer to help me survive the winter. (Hello, endorphins!) One day he said, “I’m going to start doing a new kind of training with you called CrossFit.” “Sure,” I thought, “I’m pretty much going to just show up and do whatever you tell me, so call it what you like….” Only then I fell in love with CrossFit. I got really lucky because I’m not sure I would have believed it was for me without him introducing me. Now I’m addicted!

 What recreational activities/hobbies to you do/have?

Food! My husband and I love our date nights. Wine! (to go with the food). Travel!… We’re headed to the beach in Florida in June and then the rainforest in Costa Rica in July. Kids! Most of my free time is spent doing kid-friendly stuff. And CrossFit!

 What is your favorite cheat meal?  

This is a hard question, because the only things I try to cut out completely are sugar and refined grains. But…I’m sure I eat more cheese than one person should! (Cheese is my chocolate.)

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?

One thing? But there’s so much to love! I love the supportive community of CrossFitters – how we motivate each other and cheer each other on. I love getting to run and play like a kid again! And I love feeling strong.

 What kind of positive affect has CrossFit had on you and your life?

So much! First of all, CrossFit makes me happy. I just feel better in life when I move my body. It also makes me strong. (Special shout out to Josie, my weightlifting trainer!) My two youngest kids weigh over 30 lbs. each. For better or for worse, they know I can carry them both at the same time because “Mommy is strong!” I also get to show my kids that a commitment to health is important. Kids learn from what we do, not what we say. And…we’ll see, but I’m hoping that with CrossFit I will live forever. Possible? Well, maybe not forever, but since I had my kids in my 40s, I’m doing what it takes to stay young.
