Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Cori Gobell and I am Colorado born and raised. My husband, Bob, and I have lived in the Highlands for the last 15 years and love it. When I am not playing around in the gym or at home, I am a Flight Nurse for AirLife Denver. They actually pay me to fly around in a helicopter or airplane and take care of people!
How and when did you get started with CrossFit?
I was introduced to CrossFit in 2007 while I was working in the ED at Denver Health. A couple of coworkers couldn’t/wouldn’t stop talking about CrossFit and I decided that I had to give it a try. That was back when there were only two CrossFit gyms in the whole city of Denver! I had no idea the trouble that that first trip to a CrossFit gym would get me into……I competed for a number of years (including the CrossFit Games in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, earning a team silver medal in 2011), I coached for almost 10 years (L2 trainer), and now enjoy fun workouts with friends (usually during Open Gym, and we love it when new people join us….hint, hint).
What recreational activities/hobbies to you do/have?
CrossFit, hanging with Bob, jazz, NASCAR (yes, NASCAR), travel, exploring local craft breweries, working on projects for our old house, spending time with family and friends, going on weekly walks with my mom, and post-workout beers with Sarah, just to name a few.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
Mexican food. And wine. But not necessarily in the same meal.
What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?
Personally, I love how CrossFit makes me feel (mentally and physically). But what I love most about CrossFit is that it is so inclusive. People of all ages, athletic abilities, and fitness levels can come together in one class and all do the workout. I consider everyone who steps through the doors an athlete.
What kind of positive affect has CrossFit had on you and your life?
CrossFit has really just made exercise fun, and that will last me a lifetime. My husband would say that CrossFit’s positive effect is that since I get to be competitive in the gym it makes me less competitive at home.
