My mother in law was diagnosed with Gullian Barre syndrome early this year. It left here wheel chair bound and re-learning to walk and do daily activities. This disease has no cure or no real know cause, some people recover some people don’t.
Every day for the last few months my mother in law who is in her seventy’s has been putting in the hard work with her PT’s and OT’s. She had been re-learning basic movements and activities of daily living. She’s been working through pain and fatigue.
But she persisted..
Last week I spoke with her on the phone getting an update on how she was progressing and she told me an amazing story I wanted to share here.
A story of the mind
She said that she has been using her hands alot to talk and express herself, more than she ever had before. They were going about their normal rehab routine. One of the exercise is for her stand at the kitchen sink by herself.
That days challenge was to hold on with one hand which she did! They were all thrilled and celebrating. As she stood there explaining to them with with both hands “don’t go expecting me to do this with no hands”.
Our bodies are capable of so much more than our minds can conceive.
In what ways do you think your mind holds you back more than your body in the gym?
What would be possible if you could convince your mind it was??
