Vacations are Awesome. Holidays are Memorable. First Days back in the gym are Difficult.
We’ve all been there before, your away for a few days, a few weeks, in some cases a few months. And then it’s time to get back to it. You’ve put it off long enough, You know it’s gonna be rough and you’re gonna be sore, those things are easy to remember. Our brains can easily access those aspects of training. But what you forget is the emotions and feelings you have during and after the workout.
The nervous excitement leading up to the WOD. The joy of being able to throw weight from the ground to over your head. Or glide your body through space as your chin clears the pull-up bar. The tension and release as you pull the bar from the floor. The heart pounding, lung burning sensation as you string together rep after rep. The work might be rough but the feeling of adrenaline racing through your system as you sprint past your competitors toward the finish line is so f**king worth it.
So this gets us back to where we started. The first step back in the gym is always the hardest. Convincing yourself to go. Embracing the suck. Accepting the pain. And blowing past it like a fifteen year old in a ferrari, on to greater things. CrossFit provides us with a means to excel. It provides those of us that want more with the means to attain it.
One of the things that makes people in CrossFit so successful is the community around them. Surrounding one’s self with other people taking that first step and even more people that took that step a long time ago can help promote amazing results.
So grab your friend. Or your Spouse. Or your neighbor and tell them it’s time to take that first step.
