The Overview

For the longest time, I was a fly by the seat of my pants, go where the wind takes me kinda guy.  Well the older I got I realized my pants don’t have wings and I’ve yet to find a wind strong enough to pick my ass up off the ground.

The most productive years of my life have always been those years where I’ve been working toward a goal.  Professionally and Personally I’ve accomplished more when I set a target and hustle to reach it.  Sometimes I’d talk about it with an account-a-bil-a-buddy.  Other times I’d write it down on a Post It Note and put it on my Dashboard. Some goals, I’d sear it into my brain and obsess on it.  Each one has its benefits and it’s disadvantages, the important thing is knowing which one will work best for you and your personality.

With the end of the year being 4 short weeks away, we want to encourage you to start planning out your 2017 Fitness Goals.  Start with the Big Goals, the overarching themes to your fitness.  If you think of your Goal Setting as a Road Map, this would be the overview before you narrow in on the best course (of action) to get you where you are going.

There will be plenty of time and opportunity for us to zoom in on each of your goals and prioritize them. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, first thing you need to do is look back at your 2016 journey.  In my history, it has never been easy to start filling up a blank sheet of paper with anything other than doodles.  So in order to help jumpstart your creative juices, take a look in your rearview mirror, what milestones did you hit this past year? Where did you get stuck?  Let your successes and missteps help direct you moving forward.

Remember the way you felt when you were successful?

How did you feel when you missed your mark?

When you are creating your list, use these emotions to help drive your decisions.  What goal would give you the best feeling?  How good would it feel for you overcome those missteps?

Over the next 5days I want you to collect your ideas.  Use a piece of paper, a computer doc, maybe even a white or chalk board.  They can be as big or as small as you want them to be.  I want you to collect all of your ideas, try not to think of a specific number, just keep writing them down as they come to you.  Early next week, we will start working with you on the next step.

Make it a great day.
