Athlete of the MonthApril

Matt Monroe

This month we chose 2 of the "funniest people in class" to highlight. We are always so grateful to see them show up with smiling faces and jokes for their whole class! Read Matt's story below!

Tell us a little about yourself?

I’m originally from Redding, CA, which is a small town in Northern CA, close to Oregon. I’ve lived in Colorado for almost 10 years. What do you do? When I’m not pumping iron with the 6am crew, I’m a banker that works with technology companies.

How and when did you get started with CrossFit?

I started CrossFit in 2011. I had a roommate who was a coach at CrossFit Denver. My fiancé at the time (now my smoking hot wife) and I hired him as a personal trainer before our wedding.

What recreational activities/hobbies to you do/have?

I grew up playing a ton of golf and going whitewater rafting with my dad. I still enjoy both and I’m looking forward to getting my daughters out on the river this summer and forcing them to have fun just like my dad did. I also like to snowboard. This season has been particularly awesome as I’ve had the chance to watch my four year old brave ski lessons and learn to shred the pow pow (as she says) on her own. I’m a proud dad. I also like drinking beer.

What is your favorite cheat meal?

My all time favorite is the Double-Double at In-N-Out. I’m also a big fan of The Hogger at The Pig and The Sprout here in Denver.

What is your favorite thing about CrossFit?

I’m very appreciative of the community that Chris and Amanda and all of the coaches have created. I’ve been a part of it for 4+ years and it is something special that few gyms would ever be able to recreate (with the exception of Soldier Fit). My other favorite thing is Chad’s Blink-182 playlist. I’m not kidding.

What kind of positive affect has CrossFit had on you and your life?

My wife is still attracted to me…I think.

Tell us your favorite joke!

For some reason the only joke I can ever remember is about Michael Jackson and I’ll save it for 6am.
