Intern Highlight Jared Scott

Well Hello! My name is Jared Scott; I have been with Vantage for almost 2 years now. I am originally from the Denver area, which is pretty rare being able to say I am a local.  I have been with the Wheat Ridge Fire Department for 14 years.  I am currently an Engineer for them, which just means I have a license to drive fast through red lights making a lot of loud noise.  My Girlfriend Allie is also in the wonderful world of Health Care.  She is an ER nurse in Aurora and is originally from Ft. Collins.  She is also a very accomplished marathon runner and dabbles in Crossfit as well. I am slowly bringing her to the light!

All my hobbies are done out doors, I love being in the mountains for anything really.  I love to go Camping, Hiking, Hunting, Snowboarding, Wakeboarding and just getting away from the city.  Some passions of mine include Hockey, Baseball and Golf; I am still very active in all these sports to this day.  As for my cheat meals, hmm I guess, I would have to say pizza and cookies; I love pizza and cookies!

I started Crossfit about 4 years ago; I started trying some workouts with guys from the firehouse and then finally joined a box in Westminster.  Crossfit Undeniable was my first box and it was a great gym! I actually really missed the members and coaches when I moved.  Moved 2 blocks away from Vantage and it was almost like I was meant to move to this area to be able to join Vantage! I love it, and the community that Amanda and Chris have created is amazing. Crossfit for me is a great way to make sure I have a 30-year career in the fire service.  I will never be in the games, but to be able to stay strong and healthy for the people I service is a career goal of mine.  I have had great success with the movements and mobility of Crossfit and that transfers to my career in making sure that I am mentally and physically strong for what ever I may be called to.

I love the Overhead Squat and Double-Under’s!  I know what a weirdo! The OHS is not only a full body workout, but makes you use your head.  I really like any movement that involves a snatch type movement. I really don’t have a favorite WOD, but those two movements are my wheel house.  I really am looking forward to becoming an Intern and maybe, eventually a coach with CF Vantage.  I love that fact of being able to see people grow in their health and strength not only physically, but gaining that mental toughness to be successful in any aspect of their lives.  Can’t wait to get the chance to meet all of the members in Vantage and see the amazing growth all of us are capable of!

Intern Highlight Emily Yates

I am originally from the suburbs of Chicago, but called Madison, WI home for the last 5 years.  Before pursuing a career in coaching CrossFit, I was a physical education teacher. I started CrossFit in 2009 and recently graduated from college where I played field hockey all four years and I was eager to find something that would give me that same sense of accomplishment as well as a team atmosphere. I was watching the news one day and they were doing a piece on a new form of fitness that was hitting Chicago- CrossFit.  I figured why not give it a try and I loved it!  I Rocked out my intro class WOD early in the afternoon, signed a one year membership right then and there, and came back later in the evening for my first class.  I was hooked!

I mean are there any other activities besides CrossFit? Just Kidding J Outside of CrossFit I love participating in triathlons.  I have done every length race from a sprint to IronMan.  As of recently, I stick to sprints sense I use most of my training time for CrossFit. However, swim/bike/run is a huge passion of mine.  I would put crossing the finish line of my first triathlon as one of my proudest moments! My favorite part of CrossFit is that it is constantly pushing and challenging you to become a better athlete.  Once you have accomplished 1 goal there is always something waiting in line to become your next conquered challenge.

CrossFit is not just about being fit, but encourages each individual to become their best self.  What is even more impressive about CrossFit is that although we are all on our own journey to become our best, it is not without the support and encouragement of those around us that any of this would be possible.  CrossFit is shaped by a community of athletes all striving to become better while at the same time encouraging and celebrating the success of those around us. It is hard to even figure out how to put this into words sense the positive effect CrossFit has had on me is so vast.

I found CrossFit during one of the most difficult times in my life. Not only had I just graduated from college, but my mom had recently passed away from Cancer. I felt lost and alone. When I found CrossFit, I found purpose as well as a family. CrossFit gave me reason, it gave me a place that I felt like I belonged, it showed me my strengths and inspired me to work on my weaknesses. As my role in the CrossFit world has changed from athlete to coach, it continues to inspire me to become better every day. I not only want to be stronger and more skilled, I want to become more knowledgeable about the sport, creative in the ways I coach, and extremely successful in helping those around me to find the same sense of accomplishment and pride within themselves that CrossFit breads.

Well, if I had to choose a cheat mean it would have to be Pizza! I love pizza! Chicago style, New York style, flat breads. . . . . .You name it! It does not matter! I could eat pizza every day and never get sick of it!
