Clean Slate

I had some really bad habits as a kid.  One of them would be to start stories somewhere in the middle and work my way back to the start and play it through to the end. My audiences we’re completely lost and if I was lucky, someone might stick around long enough for me to get around to the full thing.  That Sucked.  My excitement for the story would lead me to blow past the setup, skip crucial points, and then try to make up for it after.  This would leave me with an underwhelming performance and as a result, the belief that I was a shitty story teller.

It took a lot, and I mean A LOT of practice to figure out that I needed to start each story at the beginning and work my way through the details if I wanted the result of having everyone understand and enjoy my stories.  In my career as a Fitness Professional, I’ve found that people’s fitness journey is a lot like my storytelling.  Jump into the middle and work your way back while you’re trying to go forward.

The reason I love January more than most month’s is because of my daughter’s birthday,  but the second reason is because it is a Universal time to wipe the slate clean and start telling our story from the beginning.  The New Year is a special time where if you actually desire it, you can start creating the next version of yourself.  We all want to Start the Year Right, it’s very conducive to success. In many sports, it’s fun to watch a come from behind win, but most of us would prefer our team have a comfortable lead.

Now what does wiping the slate clean look like for you?  Only you can answer that question.

Is it erasing the last 6 weeks of Sugary Bliss and Binge Watching Christmas Movies?  Maybe it’s cleaning out the leftovers in your fridge and restocking your gym bag.  For some of you, it will be starting new habits, for others it will be re-starting old habits.  What I hope you all take from this article is that I don’t want you to let the negative thoughts about failing to follow through stop you from wiping the slate clean and starting this New Year right.

When the clock ticks over and the new calendar year begins, we each have an opportunity at making a fresh start and becoming a better version of ourselves.

If this article spoke to you, I challenge you to literally wipe the whiteboard clean and spell out your Number 1 Goal for 2017.  We have Personal sized whiteboards at Vantage and we would love to snap a picture of you and your goal the next time you are in.
