Know Where You’re Going?

Do you have goals?

Are you following the right path to get you there?

People often talk about goals as if they are an after thought, not something that’s driving them.

Most people I’ve worked with didn’t have specific goals coming into training.  They wanted to be more “fit”.  When I asked them “what do you consider fit?” they looked stumped.  How could I the fitness professional not know what fit was.

It’s not that I don’t know what fit is, I want to know what are the specific aspects of fitness you want to work on.  Do you have Specific Measurable  Attainable Realistic and Time bound goals or are you talking about what your goals SHOULD be?

Unfortunately, too many people don’t have SMART goals.  And even more people aren’t following the right path towards success.

In order to truly maximize your time, energy, training, you need direction.

  • I want to be Stronger.
  • I want to be Faster.
  • I want to look great naked.

These are good starts, but not enough.

  •     I want to improve my Clean & Jerk by 50#.
  •     I want to cut 3 mins off my 5k time.
  •     I want to look great naked.

These are better, but lets give it one more shot.

  •     I can clean 225# for 1 rep, I will clean 250# for 1 rep in 8weeks.
  •     I can run a 26min 5k, I will run a 23 mins 5k by my August 24th race.
  •    I want to look great naked.

These are our kind of goals.

If you don’t know your goals, think about some things you might want to accomplish.  Write them down and while you’re at it write down your Strengths & Weaknesses.  Remember, we can’t set your goals for you, but we’re sure as hell gonna help you achieve them.
