The Fitness Pyramid

In the development of an Athlete, or the re-development of an Everyday Athlete, you want to make sure that you build from the base up.  This ensures that you develop a strong foundation from which you can build glorious structures above.  Unfortunately, in the real world developing tends to happen on the fly.  Too often men and women jump back into fitness after extended periods of inactivity and try to pick up where they left off.  We sign up for rec-leagues or start working out and then we try to dial in our nutrition “later”.  We start by lifting weights because that’s what we used to do or go for a run because that’s quick and easy.  It’s haphazard at best, because it’s all we have time for or because we don’t know any better. This Fitness Pyramid demonstrates that a strong fitness program,  “the logical flow is from molecular foundations, cardiovascular sufficiency, body control, external object control, and ultimately mastery and application.” (WHAT IS FITNESS CFJ)

I like using this pyramid to start off the conversation about What is Fitness and the Philosophy behind what made us decide to Start CrossFit Vantage. We are Optimistic Realists, we know that in a world of instant gratification and quick fixes, it can be mentally and physically challenging to take the time to develop yourself and your abilities.

This hierarchy shows that if you want to master yourself physically, you need to give yourself time to develop a strong foundation and continue to develop all levels of Fitness, because your overall athleticism is built upon itself.  We’re going to dive into each level of this pyramid over the next few weeks to help you develop a better understanding of what goes into it and why each level of the pyramid is important.
